| May, 2005 Billet Caster Starts Up at North American Stainless NAS now self-sufficient for billets Danieli’s Centro Met operating unit completed the installation of the new four-strand billet caster at North American Stainless in Ghent, KY, earlier this year, and the first billets at were successfully produced on March 12, Danieli reports. The new caster feeds billets to the bar, rod and bar-in-coil mill supplied by Danieli in 2003. The caster is the first at NAS, which was started as a hot-rolled strip producer in 1991, but has since been expanded by parent Acerinox to feature cold-rolling facilities and a melt shop. The operation imports stainless slabs, but now is self-sufficient for stainless billets.
