| Tuesday | June 21, 2005 | CryoLife Pursues Use of Animal Tissue for Transplants Special To LTW ATLANTA – CryoLife and the Magdi Yacoub Institute in London have signed a three-year contract to purse research into possible use of animal tissue in human transplants. CryoLife is a developer of biomaterials and so-called biosurgical devices for use in healthcare. The Yacoub Institute is named after and led by one of the world’s leading heart surgeons. CryoLife said the focus of the collaboration will be on heart valve and the use of decellularization (removal of cellular components) technology to prepare animal tissue for implantation in humans, "The studies in this collaboration will provide information on how a decellularized animal tissue may function similar to human tissues,” said Steven Anderson, chief executive officer of CryoLi
