Twitter re-instated by Pakistani Authorities following social media ban

<img src="http://www.bigmouthmedia.com/live/images/twitter-logo-wee.gif" style="float:left; padding:5px 10px 5px 0px;" alt=""/> Pakistan authorities have reinstated access to social media site Twitter following a row over messages "offensive to Islam". The Pakistan Ministry of Information blocked the popular networking site just hours earlier, telling the Twitter community it contained <br/>"Blasphemous and inflammatory content". Islam forbids any images of the Prophet Mohammed. <br/><br/>"Out of respect for local laws, traditions and cultures, we may occasionally restrict [some content' visibility in the countries where it is illegal, as we have done in this case," said a spokesperson in a recent press release. <br/><br/>The accusations arose following a 2010 competition on Facebook, whereby contestants were asked to submit pictures of the Prophet Muhammad. The block was placed by Pakistan's Ministry of Information Technology after Twitter refused to remove the comments made. This is the second time Pakistan's Twitter facilities have been blocked by authorities for the same reason. Pakistan lost access to over 1, 000 websites, Facebook, YouTube and Wikipedia in 2010 following a court ordered ban after Facebook users started a competition called 'Draw Mohammed Day'. <br/><br/>Interior Minister Rehman Malik, denied the claims, tweeting: <br/>"Dear all, I assure u that Twitter and FB will continue in our country and it will not be blocked. Pl do not believe in rumours." <br/><br/>Many radical protests against the use of social media sites have taken place in Pakistan in recent years, with news facilities such as BBC World News taken off air in Pakistan after some material had been found to be offensive.<br/><br/>Liberal Pakistani journalist Nadeem Paracha tweeted: "Another cheap moral stunt by Pakistan," on her own Twitter page, whilst a US-based Human Rights Service called the ban "ill-advised, counterproductive and futile" in a press statement. <br/><br/><br/><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://digg.com/submit?phase=2&amp;partner=fb&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Dreinstated%2Dby%2Dpakistani%2Dauthorities%2Dfollo%2Easp%2F9238%2F&amp;title=Twitter+re%2Dinstated+by+Pakistani+Authorities+following+social+media+ban+">Digg</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://del.icio.us/post?v=4&amp;partner=fb&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Dreinstated%2Dby%2Dpakistani%2Dauthorities%2Dfollo%2Easp%2F9238%2F&amp;title=Twitter+re%2Dinstated+by+Pakistani+Authorities+following+social+media+ban+">delicious</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://reddit.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Dreinstated%2Dby%2Dpakistani%2Dauthorities%2Dfollo%2Easp%2F9238%2F">Reddit</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.google.com/bookmarks/mark?op=edit&amp;bkmk=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Dreinstated%2Dby%2Dpakistani%2Dauthorities%2Dfollo%2Easp%2F9238%2F&amp;title=Twitter+re%2Dinstated+by+Pakistani+Authorities+following+social+media+ban+">Google</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://twitter.com/intent/tweet?status=Twitter+re%2Dinstated+by+Pakistani+Authorities+following+social+media+ban++http%3A%2F%2Fbmm%2Eto%2Fa%2F%3F9238+via+@bigmouthmedia">Twitter</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://sphinn.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Dreinstated%2Dby%2Dpakistani%2Dauthorities%2Dfollo%2Easp%2F9238%2F">Sphinn</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.stumbleupon.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Dreinstated%2Dby%2Dpakistani%2Dauthorities%2Dfollo%2Easp%2F9238%2F&amp;title=Twitter+re%2Dinstated+by+Pakistani+Authorities+following+social+media+ban+">StumbleUpon</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://buzz.yahoo.com/submit/?submitCategory=business&amp;submitAssetType=text&amp;submitUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Dreinstated%2Dby%2Dpakistani%2Dauthorities%2Dfollo%2Easp%2F9238%2F&amp;submitHeadline=Twitter+re%2Dinstated+by+Pakistani+Authorities+following+social+media+ban+">YahooBuzz</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Dreinstated%2Dby%2Dpakistani%2Dauthorities%2Dfollo%2Easp%2F9238%2F">Facebook</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.mixx.com/submit?page_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Dreinstated%2Dby%2Dpakistani%2Dauthorities%2Dfollo%2Easp%2F9238%2F">Mixx</a> | <a href="http://www.bigmouthmedia.com/contact_bigmouthmedia/online/">Contact bigmouthmedia</a>

Microsoft Launches Open Search Social Network 'So.cl'

<img src="http://www.bigmouthmedia.com/live/images/microsoft-bmm.jpg" style="float:left; padding:5px 10px 5px 0px;" alt=""/> With all eyes on Facebook's historic stock market launch, Microsoft has quietly moved its new social network So.cl out of <dfn title="A test version of a product, esp. software">beta</dfn> for use by the general public. Created by Microsoft's FUSE labs, the new network (pronounced "social") is designed to help students collaborate and share ideas on an open search platform. <br/><br/>Details of Microsoft's open search social network were leaked last year after the site was accidentally published and <a href="http://fusible.com/2011/07/new-microsoft-social-search-service-called-tulalip-revealed-on-socl-com/">subsequently discovered by blog Fusible.com</a>. While in <dfn title="A test version of a product, esp. software">beta</dfn>, So.cl was later opened up to students within the information and design schools at the University of Washington, Syracuse University and New York University.<br/><br/>In <a href="http://az32199.vo.msecnd.net/multimedia/socl-2.webmvp8.webm">an introductory video</a> on the site's homepage, viewers are encouraged to "learn and share like never before". The video shows off So.cl's layout and how users can share individual search results on their activity feeds. Users can also create Pinterest-style image boards and attend 'video parties' for face-to-face chatting with multiple friends on the network.<br/><br/>Microsoft has clearly billed So.cl as complementary to exiting social networking sites, rather than as a direct competitor. In fact, users are required to register for the site through either their exiting Facebook or Windows Live account. <br/><br/>The new social network is explained in greater depth <a href="http://www.so.cl/about/faq">in the site's FAQ section</a>, which reads:<br/><br/>"We expect students to continue using products such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other existing social networks, as well as Bing, <dfn title="An important spider-based search property"><a href="http://www.bigmouthmedia.com/live/articles/about_google.asp">Google</a></dfn> and other search tools. <br/><br/>"We hope to encourage students to reimagine how our everyday communication and learning tools can be improved, by researching, learning and sharing in their everyday lives."<br/><br/>At the moment, So.cl is being marketed to students alone; however, <a href="http://www.zdnet.com/blog/igeneration/microsofts-socl-network-launched-amid-facebook-press/16268">there's already speculation</a> that this is part of Microsoft's long-term plan to grow the network into something much larger. <br/><br/><br/><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://digg.com/submit?phase=2&amp;partner=fb&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fmicrosoft%2Dlaunches%2Dopen%2Dsearch%2Dsocial%2Dnetwork%2Dso%2Easp%2F9239%2F&amp;title=Microsoft+Launches+Open+Search+Social+Network+%27So%2Ecl%27">Digg</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://del.icio.us/post?v=4&amp;partner=fb&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fmicrosoft%2Dlaunches%2Dopen%2Dsearch%2Dsocial%2Dnetwork%2Dso%2Easp%2F9239%2F&amp;title=Microsoft+Launches+Open+Search+Social+Network+%27So%2Ecl%27">delicious</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://reddit.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fmicrosoft%2Dlaunches%2Dopen%2Dsearch%2Dsocial%2Dnetwork%2Dso%2Easp%2F9239%2F">Reddit</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.google.com/bookmarks/mark?op=edit&amp;bkmk=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fmicrosoft%2Dlaunches%2Dopen%2Dsearch%2Dsocial%2Dnetwork%2Dso%2Easp%2F9239%2F&amp;title=Microsoft+Launches+Open+Search+Social+Network+%27So%2Ecl%27">Google</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://twitter.com/intent/tweet?status=Microsoft+Launches+Open+Search+Social+Network+%27So%2Ecl%27+http%3A%2F%2Fbmm%2Eto%2Fa%2F%3F9239+via+@bigmouthmedia">Twitter</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://sphinn.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fmicrosoft%2Dlaunches%2Dopen%2Dsearch%2Dsocial%2Dnetwork%2Dso%2Easp%2F9239%2F">Sphinn</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.stumbleupon.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fmicrosoft%2Dlaunches%2Dopen%2Dsearch%2Dsocial%2Dnetwork%2Dso%2Easp%2F9239%2F&amp;title=Microsoft+Launches+Open+Search+Social+Network+%27So%2Ecl%27">StumbleUpon</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://buzz.yahoo.com/submit/?submitCategory=business&amp;submitAssetType=text&amp;submitUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fmicrosoft%2Dlaunches%2Dopen%2Dsearch%2Dsocial%2Dnetwork%2Dso%2Easp%2F9239%2F&amp;submitHeadline=Microsoft+Launches+Open+Search+Social+Network+%27So%2Ecl%27">YahooBuzz</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fmicrosoft%2Dlaunches%2Dopen%2Dsearch%2Dsocial%2Dnetwork%2Dso%2Easp%2F9239%2F">Facebook</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.mixx.com/submit?page_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fmicrosoft%2Dlaunches%2Dopen%2Dsearch%2Dsocial%2Dnetwork%2Dso%2Easp%2F9239%2F">Mixx</a> | <a href="http://www.bigmouthmedia.com/contact_bigmouthmedia/online/">Contact bigmouthmedia</a>

Facebook begin share trading

<img src="http://www.bigmouthmedia.com/live/images/zuckerberg-chicken.jpg" style="float:left; padding:5px 10px 5px 0px;" alt=""/> Facebook shares have begun trading on the Nasdaq stock exchange, joining the likes of internet giants such <dfn title="An important spider-based search property"><a href="http://www.bigmouthmedia.com/live/articles/about_google.asp">Google</a></dfn> and Amazon.<br/><br/>Shares were initially priced at $38 each, but within minutes of trading - and at the time of publishing - rose to $43. The social networking site has been valued overall at $104 billion (&pound;66 billion). <br/><br/>The day's trading was opened by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerburg by video link at 0930 local time (1430 BST); however the trading of Facebook shares did not begin until 1100 local time. A celebration was held at Facebook's California offices to mark the stock flotation.<br/><br/>Facebook is releasing slightly less than a fifth of its total shares - roughly 421 million. The company expects to raise around $18 billion from its flotation. The social media giant's initial public offering is the third largest in American history, behind only Visa and General Motors.<br/><br/>BBC correspondent Mark Gregory <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-18115914">reported from New York</a> there was significant anticipation in the air before the sale: "When it starts trading, there is likely to be a bit of a frenzy." <br/><br/>"The managers of this share sale want it to be a success, but they don't want the price to go too high so that it comes crashing down in coming days."<br/><br/>The social network site at valuation is worth around the same as the internet shopping giant Amazon. Its value has also eclipsed established brands such as Disney.<br/><br/>How successful the flotation will be remains to be seen. The site's profits are small in relation to its size, making only $5 for each of its 900 million users. <br/><br/>Questions also remain about the value of advertising on the site after <a href="http://www.bigmouthmedia.com/live/articles/most-facebook-users-dont-click-on-ads.asp/9226/">General Motors announced</a> it would no longer buy ad space on the social network this week. <br/><br/><br/><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://digg.com/submit?phase=2&amp;partner=fb&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ffacebook%2Dbegin%2Dshare%2Dtrading%2D%2Easp%2F9236%2F&amp;title=Facebook+begin+share+trading+">Digg</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://del.icio.us/post?v=4&amp;partner=fb&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ffacebook%2Dbegin%2Dshare%2Dtrading%2D%2Easp%2F9236%2F&amp;title=Facebook+begin+share+trading+">delicious</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://reddit.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ffacebook%2Dbegin%2Dshare%2Dtrading%2D%2Easp%2F9236%2F">Reddit</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.google.com/bookmarks/mark?op=edit&amp;bkmk=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ffacebook%2Dbegin%2Dshare%2Dtrading%2D%2Easp%2F9236%2F&amp;title=Facebook+begin+share+trading+">Google</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://twitter.com/intent/tweet?status=Facebook+begin+share+trading++http%3A%2F%2Fbmm%2Eto%2Fa%2F%3F9236+via+@bigmouthmedia">Twitter</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://sphinn.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ffacebook%2Dbegin%2Dshare%2Dtrading%2D%2Easp%2F9236%2F">Sphinn</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.stumbleupon.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ffacebook%2Dbegin%2Dshare%2Dtrading%2D%2Easp%2F9236%2F&amp;title=Facebook+begin+share+trading+">StumbleUpon</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://buzz.yahoo.com/submit/?submitCategory=business&amp;submitAssetType=text&amp;submitUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ffacebook%2Dbegin%2Dshare%2Dtrading%2D%2Easp%2F9236%2F&amp;submitHeadline=Facebook+begin+share+trading+">YahooBuzz</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ffacebook%2Dbegin%2Dshare%2Dtrading%2D%2Easp%2F9236%2F">Facebook</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.mixx.com/submit?page_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ffacebook%2Dbegin%2Dshare%2Dtrading%2D%2Easp%2F9236%2F">Mixx</a> | <a href="http://www.bigmouthmedia.com/contact_bigmouthmedia/online/">Contact bigmouthmedia</a>

Twitter tells users who to follow

<img src="http://www.bigmouthmedia.com/live/images/twitter-bird.jpg" style="float:left; padding:5px 10px 5px 0px;" alt=""/> Twitter wants to help users find who to follow.<br/><br/>The popular microblogger announced it's experimenting with a new tool that will offer users tailored suggestions based on followers and personal interests. Users will soon find personalised recommendations on the microblogger's "Who to Follow" section. <br/><br/>"To make it easier and faster for everyone to get started on Twitter, we're beginning some experiments with tailored suggestions in a number of countries around the world," Twitter's director of Growth and International, Othman Laraki, wrote on the <a href="http://blog.twitter.com/2012/05/new-tailored-suggestions-for-you-to.html">company blog</a>.<br/><br/>"The first experiment will show new users a list of accounts that we recommend you follow, alongside a timeline filled with Tweets from those accounts.<br/><br/>"These tailored suggestions are based on accounts followed by other Twitter users and visits to websites in the Twitter ecosystem," Laraki said. <br/><br/>Twitter also recently announced its support of Mozilla and the Federal Trade Commission's 'Do Not Track' initiative - users can opt not to have their personal information collected by Twitter, and as such, can opt out of the personalised suggestions on the microblogging platform.<br/><br/>"This will be a good example of Do Not Track feature that doesn't involve advertising but involves other user-facing features," FTC tech officer Ed Felton <a href="http://www.latimes.com/business/technology/la-fi-tn-twitter-tailored-suggestions-20120517,0,2201695.story">said at the Internet Week panel in New York</a>.<br/><br/>"And it is interesting because how one particular company will be fitting Do Not Track into a broader strategy for providing transparency and choice about data practices."<br/><br/>Speaking about the tailored suggestions, Laraki said: "Every day, experienced Twitter users are brought closer to the things they care about in unique, profound ways. Today's experiment in providing tailored suggestions lets novice users go from zero to pro faster and more easily than ever before." <br/><br/><br/><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://digg.com/submit?phase=2&amp;partner=fb&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Dtells%2Dusers%2Dwho%2Dto%2Dfollow%2D%2Easp%2F9232%2F&amp;title=Twitter+tells+users+who+to+follow+">Digg</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://del.icio.us/post?v=4&amp;partner=fb&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Dtells%2Dusers%2Dwho%2Dto%2Dfollow%2D%2Easp%2F9232%2F&amp;title=Twitter+tells+users+who+to+follow+">delicious</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://reddit.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Dtells%2Dusers%2Dwho%2Dto%2Dfollow%2D%2Easp%2F9232%2F">Reddit</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.google.com/bookmarks/mark?op=edit&amp;bkmk=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Dtells%2Dusers%2Dwho%2Dto%2Dfollow%2D%2Easp%2F9232%2F&amp;title=Twitter+tells+users+who+to+follow+">Google</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://twitter.com/intent/tweet?status=Twitter+tells+users+who+to+follow++http%3A%2F%2Fbmm%2Eto%2Fa%2F%3F9232+via+@bigmouthmedia">Twitter</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://sphinn.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Dtells%2Dusers%2Dwho%2Dto%2Dfollow%2D%2Easp%2F9232%2F">Sphinn</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.stumbleupon.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Dtells%2Dusers%2Dwho%2Dto%2Dfollow%2D%2Easp%2F9232%2F&amp;title=Twitter+tells+users+who+to+follow+">StumbleUpon</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://buzz.yahoo.com/submit/?submitCategory=business&amp;submitAssetType=text&amp;submitUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Dtells%2Dusers%2Dwho%2Dto%2Dfollow%2D%2Easp%2F9232%2F&amp;submitHeadline=Twitter+tells+users+who+to+follow+">YahooBuzz</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Dtells%2Dusers%2Dwho%2Dto%2Dfollow%2D%2Easp%2F9232%2F">Facebook</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.mixx.com/submit?page_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Dtells%2Dusers%2Dwho%2Dto%2Dfollow%2D%2Easp%2F9232%2F">Mixx</a> | <a href="http://www.bigmouthmedia.com/contact_bigmouthmedia/online/">Contact bigmouthmedia</a>

Users complaining on social networks

<img src="http://www.bigmouthmedia.com/live/images/twitter-bird.jpg" style="float:left; padding:5px 10px 5px 0px;" alt=""/> Social Media is emerging as an effective way of making customer complaints about a company, according to a new survey. <br/><br/>Conducted by Fishburn Hedges and Echo Research, the survey polled 2,000 UK adults on their use of social media platforms to air their grievances.<br/><br/>36 per cent of those questioned said they had used social media to contact a large company in April 2012. A further 65 per cent said social media was a better way to communicate with companies than call centres. <br/><br/>In fact, half of people polled aged between 18 and 24 had contact with big brands in this way and 27 per cent of people aged 55 plus also employed this tactic. <br/><br/><br/>Eva Keogan, head of innovation at Fishburn Hedges, calls this quick response, "VIP treatment from brands on social media".<br/><br/>"Fear of public complaints evens up the balance for us all. However, the smartest businesses are the ones that will manage to avoid injecting needless processes," she told the <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18081651">BBC</a>.<br/><br/>"Social media can bring a business and its customers much closer."<br/><br/>However, in order to deal with the volume of complaints, brands have to allocate more resources to customer service departments.<br/><br/>Richard Dodd, of the British Retail Consortium, told the BBC that dealing with social media complaints "has the potential to need more staff." <br/><br/>"If you are actively engaging in social media you are setting up an expectation amongst customers that they will receive a response, so you have to be geared up to fulfil those expectations," he said.<br/><br/><br/><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://digg.com/submit?phase=2&amp;partner=fb&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fusers%2Dcomplaining%2Don%2Dsocial%2Dnetworks%2Easp%2F9230%2F&amp;title=Users+complaining+on+social+networks">Digg</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://del.icio.us/post?v=4&amp;partner=fb&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fusers%2Dcomplaining%2Don%2Dsocial%2Dnetworks%2Easp%2F9230%2F&amp;title=Users+complaining+on+social+networks">delicious</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://reddit.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fusers%2Dcomplaining%2Don%2Dsocial%2Dnetworks%2Easp%2F9230%2F">Reddit</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.google.com/bookmarks/mark?op=edit&amp;bkmk=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fusers%2Dcomplaining%2Don%2Dsocial%2Dnetworks%2Easp%2F9230%2F&amp;title=Users+complaining+on+social+networks">Google</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://twitter.com/intent/tweet?status=Users+complaining+on+social+networks+http%3A%2F%2Fbmm%2Eto%2Fa%2F%3F9230+via+@bigmouthmedia">Twitter</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://sphinn.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fusers%2Dcomplaining%2Don%2Dsocial%2Dnetworks%2Easp%2F9230%2F">Sphinn</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.stumbleupon.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fusers%2Dcomplaining%2Don%2Dsocial%2Dnetworks%2Easp%2F9230%2F&amp;title=Users+complaining+on+social+networks">StumbleUpon</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://buzz.yahoo.com/submit/?submitCategory=business&amp;submitAssetType=text&amp;submitUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fusers%2Dcomplaining%2Don%2Dsocial%2Dnetworks%2Easp%2F9230%2F&amp;submitHeadline=Users+complaining+on+social+networks">YahooBuzz</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fusers%2Dcomplaining%2Don%2Dsocial%2Dnetworks%2Easp%2F9230%2F">Facebook</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.mixx.com/submit?page_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fusers%2Dcomplaining%2Don%2Dsocial%2Dnetworks%2Easp%2F9230%2F">Mixx</a> | <a href="http://www.bigmouthmedia.com/contact_bigmouthmedia/online/">Contact bigmouthmedia</a>

Google brings Knowledge Graph to Search

<img src="http://www.bigmouthmedia.com/live/images/google-logo-2010.jpg" style="float:left; padding:5px 10px 5px 0px;" alt=""/> <dfn title="An important spider-based search property"><a href="http://www.bigmouthmedia.com/live/articles/about_google.asp">Google</a></dfn> has set out to make search act 'more human' and taken its next step toward total search domination with the Knowledge Graph. <br/><br/>Previously, Google's algorithm matched keywords with user queries to produce results - the addition of Knowledge Graph will help the <dfn title="Website with a searchable database - usually presumed to be a database of other web resource sites"><a href="http://www.bigmouthmedia.com/products_services/search_engine_optimisation/">search engine</a></dfn> better understand 'context'. <br/><br/>"The Knowledge Graph enables you to search for things, people or places that Google knows about - landmarks, celebrities, cities, sports teams, buildings, geographical features, movies, celestial objects, works of art and more - and instantly get information that's relevant to your query," Google SVP of Engineering Amit Singhal wrote on the <a href="http://googleblog.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/introducing-knowledge-graph-things-not.html">company blog</a>.<br/><br/>"This is a critical first step towards building the next generation of search, which taps into the collective intelligence of the web and understands the world a bit more like people do."<br/><br/>The Knowledge Graph compiles information from public sources - including Freebase, Wikipedia and the CIA World Factbook - and contains information on more than 500 million objects and uses some 3.5 billion facts. <br/><br/>Search results will be arranged into categories in which the search term has been associated, giving users the ability to zero in on results most relevant to them. <br/><br/>Further, Google will now also provide users with a summary of relevant information on key searches - for example important people - and will also provide what it believes are relevant related searches. <br/><br/>"We've always believed that the perfect search engine should understand exactly what you mean and give you back exactly what you want," Singhal said.<br/><br/>"And we can now sometimes help answer your next question before you've asked it, because the facts we show are informed by what other people have searched for."<br/><br/><iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/mmQl6VGvX-c?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://digg.com/submit?phase=2&amp;partner=fb&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fgoogle%2Dbrings%2Dknowledge%2Dgraph%2Dto%2Dsearch%2Easp%2F9229%2F&amp;title=Google+brings+Knowledge+Graph+to+Search">Digg</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://del.icio.us/post?v=4&amp;partner=fb&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fgoogle%2Dbrings%2Dknowledge%2Dgraph%2Dto%2Dsearch%2Easp%2F9229%2F&amp;title=Google+brings+Knowledge+Graph+to+Search">delicious</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://reddit.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fgoogle%2Dbrings%2Dknowledge%2Dgraph%2Dto%2Dsearch%2Easp%2F9229%2F">Reddit</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.google.com/bookmarks/mark?op=edit&amp;bkmk=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fgoogle%2Dbrings%2Dknowledge%2Dgraph%2Dto%2Dsearch%2Easp%2F9229%2F&amp;title=Google+brings+Knowledge+Graph+to+Search">Google</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://twitter.com/intent/tweet?status=Google+brings+Knowledge+Graph+to+Search+http%3A%2F%2Fbmm%2Eto%2Fa%2F%3F9229+via+@bigmouthmedia">Twitter</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://sphinn.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fgoogle%2Dbrings%2Dknowledge%2Dgraph%2Dto%2Dsearch%2Easp%2F9229%2F">Sphinn</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.stumbleupon.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fgoogle%2Dbrings%2Dknowledge%2Dgraph%2Dto%2Dsearch%2Easp%2F9229%2F&amp;title=Google+brings+Knowledge+Graph+to+Search">StumbleUpon</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://buzz.yahoo.com/submit/?submitCategory=business&amp;submitAssetType=text&amp;submitUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fgoogle%2Dbrings%2Dknowledge%2Dgraph%2Dto%2Dsearch%2Easp%2F9229%2F&amp;submitHeadline=Google+brings+Knowledge+Graph+to+Search">YahooBuzz</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fgoogle%2Dbrings%2Dknowledge%2Dgraph%2Dto%2Dsearch%2Easp%2F9229%2F">Facebook</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.mixx.com/submit?page_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fgoogle%2Dbrings%2Dknowledge%2Dgraph%2Dto%2Dsearch%2Easp%2F9229%2F">Mixx</a> | <a href="http://www.bigmouthmedia.com/contact_bigmouthmedia/online/">Contact bigmouthmedia</a>

Most Facebook users don't click on ads

<img src="http://www.bigmouthmedia.com/live/images/facebook-big-zuck.jpg" style="float:left; padding:5px 10px 5px 0px;" alt=""/> Most people do not click on Facebook ads according to a new survey by CNBC and Associated Press. <br/><br/>Figures show 57 per cent of Facebook users never click on or use any of the commercial content on the site, as well as another 26 per cent stating that they rarely do so.<br/><br/>This is a blow to the social networking giant as its commercial plan for public flotation is mainly based on users responding to adverts. The CNBC/Associated Press report comes on the same day as General Motors announced <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/facebook/9268826/General-Motors-says-it-will-stop-advertising-on-Facebook.html">they will no longer advertise on Facebook</a>, due to the lack of impact their ad campaigns had had on users.<br/><br/>GM is the third biggest advertiser in America and their abandonment of Facebook as a platform shows up a major flaw in the social network's flotation strategy.<br/><br/>"This does highlight what we are arguing is the riskiness of the overall Facebook business model," said Brian Wieser, Internet and media analyst at Pivotal Research Group, to the <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/facebook/9269966/Majority-of-Facebook-users-do-not-click-on-adverts.html">Daily Telegraph</a>.<br/><br/>"It is not a sure thing. It sure looks likely that it will be one of the most important ad-supported media properties, but it's not certain because there will be marketers who are challenged to prove the effectiveness of the marketing vehicle."<br/><br/>GM will carry on maintaining its free Facebook pages, using them to promote products and services. <br/><br/>Facebook will reportedly start trading on the Nasdaq on Friday. Despite the advertising strategy and revenue problems, there is strong investor demand with its offering increased by 25 per cent to raise $15 million. <br/><br/><br/><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://digg.com/submit?phase=2&amp;partner=fb&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fmost%2Dfacebook%2Dusers%2Ddont%2Dclick%2Don%2Dads%2Easp%2F9226%2F&amp;title=Most+Facebook+users+don%27t+click+on+ads">Digg</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://del.icio.us/post?v=4&amp;partner=fb&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fmost%2Dfacebook%2Dusers%2Ddont%2Dclick%2Don%2Dads%2Easp%2F9226%2F&amp;title=Most+Facebook+users+don%27t+click+on+ads">delicious</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://reddit.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fmost%2Dfacebook%2Dusers%2Ddont%2Dclick%2Don%2Dads%2Easp%2F9226%2F">Reddit</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.google.com/bookmarks/mark?op=edit&amp;bkmk=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fmost%2Dfacebook%2Dusers%2Ddont%2Dclick%2Don%2Dads%2Easp%2F9226%2F&amp;title=Most+Facebook+users+don%27t+click+on+ads">Google</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://twitter.com/intent/tweet?status=Most+Facebook+users+don%27t+click+on+ads+http%3A%2F%2Fbmm%2Eto%2Fa%2F%3F9226+via+@bigmouthmedia">Twitter</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://sphinn.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fmost%2Dfacebook%2Dusers%2Ddont%2Dclick%2Don%2Dads%2Easp%2F9226%2F">Sphinn</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.stumbleupon.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fmost%2Dfacebook%2Dusers%2Ddont%2Dclick%2Don%2Dads%2Easp%2F9226%2F&amp;title=Most+Facebook+users+don%27t+click+on+ads">StumbleUpon</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://buzz.yahoo.com/submit/?submitCategory=business&amp;submitAssetType=text&amp;submitUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fmost%2Dfacebook%2Dusers%2Ddont%2Dclick%2Don%2Dads%2Easp%2F9226%2F&amp;submitHeadline=Most+Facebook+users+don%27t+click+on+ads">YahooBuzz</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fmost%2Dfacebook%2Dusers%2Ddont%2Dclick%2Don%2Dads%2Easp%2F9226%2F">Facebook</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.mixx.com/submit?page_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fmost%2Dfacebook%2Dusers%2Ddont%2Dclick%2Don%2Dads%2Easp%2F9226%2F">Mixx</a> | <a href="http://www.bigmouthmedia.com/contact_bigmouthmedia/online/">Contact bigmouthmedia</a>

Siri likes Nokia best

<img src="http://www.bigmouthmedia.com/live/images/iphone-4S.jpg" style="float:left; padding:5px 10px 5px 0px;" alt=""/> Mirror, mirror on the wall. Which is the best smartphone of them all? Well - according to Siri, it's the Nokia Lumia 900.<br/><br/>Apple's virtual assistant was caught behaving badly - when users asked "what is the best smartphone ever?" over the weekend, Siri overlooked the iPhone it calls home in favour of the Nokia Lumia 900. <br/><br/>"We were certainly flattered and honoured," Nokia spokesman Doug Dawson told the <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-18071342">BBC</a>. <br/><br/>To find answers to user queries, Siri makes use of the Wolfram Alpha database, which compiles data and available reviews from the internet to find information, explaining the quirk answer. <br/><br/>"The bottom line is that Wolfram has ratings from Best Buy, and it's not trying to weight those in any particular fashion such as number of reviews or number of purchases," <a href="http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-57434326-37/nokia-apple-rigged-siri-to-name-iphone-best-phone/">Danny Sullivan told CNET</a>.<br/><br/>"The Lumia rates tops on Wolfman because four people gave it 5 stars, versus 86 people who give the iPhone 4S an overall rating of 4.7." <br/><br/>However, as a server based application, Apple can also provide a direct answer rather than gleaning it from the database - engineers quickly twigged to Siri's bad behaviour, presumably opting to provide their own answer to the cheeky question.<br/><br/>Now, when users ask "what is the best smartphone ever?", Siri responds with "Wait... there are other phones?" or "The one you're holding," or "You're kidding, right?" <br/><br/>"Apple position Siri as the intelligent system that's there to help, but clearly if they don't like the answer, they override the software," Nokia spokeswoman Tracey Postill joked to the Sydney Morning Herald. <br/><br/><br/><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://digg.com/submit?phase=2&amp;partner=fb&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fsiri%2Dlikes%2Dnokia%2Dbest%2D%2Easp%2F9223%2F&amp;title=Siri+likes+Nokia+best+">Digg</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://del.icio.us/post?v=4&amp;partner=fb&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fsiri%2Dlikes%2Dnokia%2Dbest%2D%2Easp%2F9223%2F&amp;title=Siri+likes+Nokia+best+">delicious</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://reddit.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fsiri%2Dlikes%2Dnokia%2Dbest%2D%2Easp%2F9223%2F">Reddit</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.google.com/bookmarks/mark?op=edit&amp;bkmk=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fsiri%2Dlikes%2Dnokia%2Dbest%2D%2Easp%2F9223%2F&amp;title=Siri+likes+Nokia+best+">Google</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://twitter.com/intent/tweet?status=Siri+likes+Nokia+best++http%3A%2F%2Fbmm%2Eto%2Fa%2F%3F9223+via+@bigmouthmedia">Twitter</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://sphinn.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fsiri%2Dlikes%2Dnokia%2Dbest%2D%2Easp%2F9223%2F">Sphinn</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.stumbleupon.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fsiri%2Dlikes%2Dnokia%2Dbest%2D%2Easp%2F9223%2F&amp;title=Siri+likes+Nokia+best+">StumbleUpon</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://buzz.yahoo.com/submit/?submitCategory=business&amp;submitAssetType=text&amp;submitUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fsiri%2Dlikes%2Dnokia%2Dbest%2D%2Easp%2F9223%2F&amp;submitHeadline=Siri+likes+Nokia+best+">YahooBuzz</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fsiri%2Dlikes%2Dnokia%2Dbest%2D%2Easp%2F9223%2F">Facebook</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.mixx.com/submit?page_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Fsiri%2Dlikes%2Dnokia%2Dbest%2D%2Easp%2F9223%2F">Mixx</a> | <a href="http://www.bigmouthmedia.com/contact_bigmouthmedia/online/">Contact bigmouthmedia</a>

Twitter delivers to user inboxes

<img src="http://www.bigmouthmedia.com/live/images/twitter-bird.jpg" style="float:left; padding:5px 10px 5px 0px;" alt=""/> Twitter is taking it to the next level, and has unveiled a new 'weekly email digest' feature that will give users a summary of the biggest stories from their twitter feeds over the course of the week. <br/><br/>The new feature comes thanks to the microblogger's acquisition of Summify - a Vancouver start-up that gathered news from a user's social network and compiled the information into daily emails. <br/> <br/>Users can opt into the new feature and receive emails highlighting stories and related tweets from the people they follow. <br/><br/>"Stories feature a design similar to the recently updated Discover tab, emphasising who shared each story beneath summaries to help you decide which ones matter most to you," Twitter Growth and International Director Othman Laraki <a href="http://blog.twitter.com/2012/05/best-of-twitter-in-your-inbox.html">wrote in a blog post</a>.<br/><br/>"Click any headline to finish reading the story, add your take by tweeting directly from the email, and see related Tweets from the people you follow."<br/><br/><a href="http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-57425359-93/twitter-ceo-ipo-still-a-long-way-off/?tag=mncol;txt">Speaking at the Wired conference in New York earlier this month</a>, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo admitted "onboarding" new users was a challenge for the microblogging platform.<br/><br/>To combat this, the company also recently launched its new more personalised 'Discover' tab, aimed at helping users find new followers and stories based on their existing activities. <br/><br/>"This new email digest also features the most engaging Tweets seen by the people you follow, even if you don't follow who wrote them," Laraki continued.<br/><br/>"You can see who from your network retweeted or favourited these Tweets and click "View details" to retweets, favourite, reply or view the conversation around them."<br/><br/><br/><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://digg.com/submit?phase=2&amp;partner=fb&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Ddelivers%2Dto%2Duser%2Dinboxes%2D%2Easp%2F9219%2F&amp;title=Twitter+delivers+to+user+inboxes+">Digg</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://del.icio.us/post?v=4&amp;partner=fb&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Ddelivers%2Dto%2Duser%2Dinboxes%2D%2Easp%2F9219%2F&amp;title=Twitter+delivers+to+user+inboxes+">delicious</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://reddit.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Ddelivers%2Dto%2Duser%2Dinboxes%2D%2Easp%2F9219%2F">Reddit</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.google.com/bookmarks/mark?op=edit&amp;bkmk=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Ddelivers%2Dto%2Duser%2Dinboxes%2D%2Easp%2F9219%2F&amp;title=Twitter+delivers+to+user+inboxes+">Google</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://twitter.com/intent/tweet?status=Twitter+delivers+to+user+inboxes++http%3A%2F%2Fbmm%2Eto%2Fa%2F%3F9219+via+@bigmouthmedia">Twitter</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://sphinn.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Ddelivers%2Dto%2Duser%2Dinboxes%2D%2Easp%2F9219%2F">Sphinn</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.stumbleupon.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Ddelivers%2Dto%2Duser%2Dinboxes%2D%2Easp%2F9219%2F&amp;title=Twitter+delivers+to+user+inboxes+">StumbleUpon</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://buzz.yahoo.com/submit/?submitCategory=business&amp;submitAssetType=text&amp;submitUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Ddelivers%2Dto%2Duser%2Dinboxes%2D%2Easp%2F9219%2F&amp;submitHeadline=Twitter+delivers+to+user+inboxes+">YahooBuzz</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Ddelivers%2Dto%2Duser%2Dinboxes%2D%2Easp%2F9219%2F">Facebook</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.mixx.com/submit?page_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Ddelivers%2Dto%2Duser%2Dinboxes%2D%2Easp%2F9219%2F">Mixx</a> | <a href="http://www.bigmouthmedia.com/contact_bigmouthmedia/online/">Contact bigmouthmedia</a>

Twitter reaches 10 million UK users

<img src="http://www.bigmouthmedia.com/live/images/twitter-bird.jpg" style="float:left; padding:5px 10px 5px 0px;" alt=""/> The UK now has the fourth biggest number of Twitter users in the world after the US, Japan and Brazil. These figures were released on the one year anniversary of the opening of Twitter's London office. <br/><br/>According to Twitter, it now has 140 million users worldwide, with Britain having 10 million users of the service alone. 80 per cent of these users access Twitter through their mobile phones, whereas only 55 per cent of users do so worldwide. Despite the growth in Twitter use, the site is still small compared to Facebook, with 30 million UK users and 800 million users worldwide.<br/><br/>However, despite being smaller than its social networking competitor, Twitter has come in for some controversial press over the last year. Firstly Ryan Giggs was named on Twitter as the man in a court case covered by an injunction, and then later in the year, the website was cited as a tool for rioters across Britain. <br/><br/>There were claims rioters were arranging meeting points and times using Twitter, Facebook and BlackBerry Messenger. Suggestions that police could be given powers to block social media during times of unrest were also tabled.<br/><br/>As a result, Twitters UK general manager Tony Wang has announced the company will be hiring a public policy manager to work more closely with Parliament and the Police. <br/><br/>Mr Wang told the <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-18057930">BBC</a> they are looking to work with "the government, various ministries, members of parliament as well as law enforcement.<br/><br/>"There are a number of different needs that they have - and there's a lot of very unique ways that they're using Twitter."<br/><br/><br/><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://digg.com/submit?phase=2&amp;partner=fb&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Dreaches%2D10%2Dmillion%2Duk%2Dusers%2Easp%2F9221%2F&amp;title=Twitter+reaches+10+million+UK+users">Digg</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://del.icio.us/post?v=4&amp;partner=fb&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Dreaches%2D10%2Dmillion%2Duk%2Dusers%2Easp%2F9221%2F&amp;title=Twitter+reaches+10+million+UK+users">delicious</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://reddit.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Dreaches%2D10%2Dmillion%2Duk%2Dusers%2Easp%2F9221%2F">Reddit</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.google.com/bookmarks/mark?op=edit&amp;bkmk=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles%2Ftwitter%2Dreaches%2D10%2Dmillion%2Duk%2Dusers%2Easp%2F9221%2F&amp;title=Twitter+reaches+10+million+UK+users">Google</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://twitter.com/intent/tweet?status=Twitter+reaches+10+million+UK+users+http%3A%2F%2Fbmm%2Eto%2Fa%2F%3F9221+via+@bigmouthmedia">Twitter</a> | <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://sphinn.com/submit?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ebigmouthmedia%2Ecom%2Flive%2Farticles
